Scope of Work:
Prime Contractor for the Construction of 2.3 miles of reconstruction of existing lanes and addition of new lanes to upgrade from an existing two lane road to a four lane divided highway on the SR 60A bypass.
Statement of Project Relevance:
SR 60 is a major four lane divided highway connecting the East and West coast and is heavily traveled by over the road truck traffic. SR 60A is the SR 60 by-pass around the city of Bartow. These projects consisted of 321,727 cubic yards of excavation; 222, 122 cubic yards of embankment; 102,277 square feet of permanent retaining wall systems; 22,174 square feet of temporary retaining wall systems; 46,444 square feet of temporary sheet piling; thirteen special detours; removal of five bridge structures; construction of two new bridge structures; 24,050 linear feet of drainage with structures; 162,415 square yards of stabilized subgrade; 141,910 square yards of limerock base and 30,351 tons of Bituminous Asphalt mix. The Lane Construction Corporation submitted a VECP on the SR 60A (Van Fleet Drive) project to eliminate an island between two bridge structures and construct one single structure. By eliminating the center island the West Bartow Front Porch Community was reconnected with the rest of town. The VECP resulted in a time savings of 120 days and a project savings of nearly $78,000.00. This VECP received the National Value Engineering Award for the "Most Innovative Proposal During Construction" at the 2003 AASHTO Value Engineering Conference.
