Photostory: Clean Rivers
Lane’s Northeast Boundary Tunnel (NEBT) project in Washington, D.C. is the final component of the Anacostia River Tunnel, the primary component of the ongoing DC Water Clean Rivers Project that aims reduce sewer overflows into the District’s waterways. To date, the in-service portion of the Anacostia River Tunnel has prevented more than 7 billion gallons of combined sewage and 3,500 tons of trash from polluting the Anacostia River. Lane’s NEBT and the Anacostia River Tunnel projects have fostered a greater connection between area residents and the health of the community. This can be seen in the reduction of litter, improved water quality, and vibrancy of outdoor recreational use since the project began.
