Project Cost: $403 million
Project Type: Highways & Bridges | Procurement Type: Design-Build

As part of the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) “Complete 540” initiative, Lane is building an extension of NC-540, Triangle Expressway on a new alignment through Wake and Johnston Counties, NC from US-401 to the intersection with I-40.
The work is part of the state’s larger Complete 540 project to establish a full loop road around the city of Raleigh. Once finished, the Complete 540 project, scheduled for delivery in 2022, will connect several towns and cities in the area, and help ease congestion on local roadways.
Transportation, social and economic demands, and mobility considerations are the reasons for additional transportation infrastructure in southeastern Wake County, according to NCDOT. The Complete 540 project would link Apex, Cary, Clayton, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, and Raleigh.
The Complete 540 R2828 project encompasses:
- Bridge structure and interchange construction
- Earthwork and drainage construction
- Concrete paving
- Hot mix asphalt (HMA) paving
